Instead of using programmes to manipulate the aesthetics of a photograph, I wanted it to be a physical exploration. I wanted to magnify the imperfections of early processing as well as giving these old prints a new lease of life. The media used is a method of turning these memories into images of not only narrative qualities but artistic too, they give the viewer more to digest. The inspiration of the exploration came after a visit to a Gerhard Richter exhibition, I enjoyed the way he changes the meaning of photographs not only by means of colour and paint but also by placement of images.
